i saw on the internet how to keep your cooler colder longer. i went camping a few weeks ago in Yosemite and the ice i put in the cooler at home (a 2 & 1/2 drive) lasted me 2 whole days! i was skeptical, but decided to try it, and for me, it works great. get a large zip lock bag, fill it almost full of cold water, and put at least one good tablespoon amount of salt in with it.... onceby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. i was talking to a Ranger yesterday about why the campground is still closed. she said it typically doesn't open until early June... i asked why...i said "but there isn't any snow, and there hasn't been for some time. Hodgdon Meadows is even higher elevation, yet it's been open all year round (with no snow for quite a while)".... she didn't really have a good answer other than they don'by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. update: my buddy just emailed me this when i asked him if he knew exactly where the slide was, he said this: " Almost to the top of the John Mir trail before you go to that open area at the top where the water drips down off the rock." so if you guys know what his is talking about, its that trail area where the water comes down the side of the mountain / rock that gets you wet durinby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. i went camping for two days... friday there was no sign of any rain as far as the weather report i got back home, but when i was approaching the park (from hwy 120 entrance), it started to drizzle.... then it got harder and harder... by the time i got to the valley itself, it POURED!!!! Hi everyone; i have camped a dozen times at Hodgdon Meadows (by Hwy 120 entrance), but can't remember the name of the road to turn on... its about 300 yards from the park entrance. i'm having some family meet me there, but i can't remember the name of the road to give them directions other than take the first left after the park entrance. thanks a ton.by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. parklover; it could have been he wanted his body to be found by authorities and not some child / family eventually down river, who knows... i find it odd that not a single soul saw him fall... this time of year???? when it's totally busy with tourists? he HAD to have been there WAY early in the morning for no one to see him... maybe over time there will be an update to the story.by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. truly sad.. so many people get hurt or die there... people just aren't careful enough... every single time i'm up there, someone is always pushing the limit to see how far they can get away from being in danger... i'm not saying this man did, but young people in particular. i wonder if it could have been a suicide? it's just weird to me that a man his age was alone, and his backpack right nextby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. thanks parklover..... now that you mention it, my major concern would be them barking at other people and other dogs... it would be a shame if my son got a citation etc.... hmmm .... would it be the person who owns the dog that gets the citation? or the person who paid for the campsite i wonder?by forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hey everyone; i am camping in Hodgdon Meadows next month with my son's family... they have two medium size unruly dogs (at least untrained). my son's wife is the kind that just cannot leave her dogs at home for any time other than a few hours, so camping overnight won't work for her, she insists on bringing them to Yosemite. from what i have read, it appears that dogs are allowed in the camby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. 1. at the main entrance on Hwy 120, there is a bathroom right off the parking lot. this place hasn't had anything done to it (that i've noticed) in a number of years!! they really need to update it, and better yet, tear it down and build a bigger one! 2. some of the roads have such big pot holes in the valley, it is ridiculous. personally (i know they won't do it)... but i would be willingby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. sorry if this topic has been brought up before, but one thing that drives me nuts about the road inside the valley, is that one 3 way intersection they have there. i see more near accidents every time i'm there. everyone thinks its a 4 way stop, and so they jump out in front of cars that don't have a stop sign. ... then those who don't have a stop sign, stop when they aren't suppose to, confusingby forrestranger - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
