Point Reyes area is beautiful. Great hikes, generally low crowds (compared to many other places in the Bay Area). Point Reyes Station has some good cheese.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'd love for somebody to use the "lucky imaging" technique on this particular angle. Astrophotographers use it to counteract the effects of atmospheric turbulence. It could potentially allow for very sharp pictures of Half Dome from a unique, incredible angle.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteeeek QuoteparkloverI have not heard anything yet. Who knows what it will be like in March and how many big storms will come the next few weeks. I don't think they have even fully accessed the damage from that storm and more snow is coming. And add to that the threat of another shutdown. I'd like to echo your sentiments. I'm from the midwest (and still live there) and use this site as a resource for planning trips, to daydream and to hear news regarding Yosemite and other parks. I'm very thankful to the people who run it and those that contribute to it; the amount of wisdom and information being shared on here is amazing. QuoteDave If you are coming from the East Bay, take 580 south from the Altimont Pass. Then take the Modesto exit and stay on C132 through Modesto, through Waterford, through La Grange, until you reach Merced Falls Road. Turn right. I think UV is the way to go. Chemical has a hard time with parasites (because of the lack of penetration through the "shells" and physical has a hard time with viruses and smaller bacteria. Just make sure the UV is used in water that is pre-filtered or naturally low turbidity and that the retention time is long enough (follow the instructions.) Quoteplawrence Don't have experience with the Coleman, but I and others have had very good luck with Weber's Q portable gas griills. http://www.weber.com/explore/grills/gas-portable/weber-q-120-1 They heat up nicely and grill very predictably. The chance of them getting hit is higher the faster you go, though. Between you taking a longer distance to stop, covering more distance before reacting, and them having less time to react, speeding definitely increases the fatalities.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Well, even with no sun it shouldn't be blue. So you're right that if the sun wasn't out it probably should be a bit darker, but no blue unless it's reflecting something blue. Also, a telltale sign that it's the white balance at fault is by looking at the grey areas (rocks, shadows) and seeing if they have color when they shouldn't. Agreed. That's what I used while doing my Half Dome hike and if I did it again I'd just do the Mist Trail. Mist Trail is shorter and only marginally more difficult (if at all) while going uphill.
