Now introducing the Environmental President: George W. Bush
GOOD ONE!
One more rip. How is neglect maintaining 600 miles of trail a year?
O MY GOD! 200 Miles are not maintained! HOW IN HEAVEN will
people make it. I have an idea. Let's put Cell Phone towers in!
Problem solved.
Seriously, the maintaining the trails in Yosemite is hogwash IMO.
They go way overboard on the high sierra loop trails

General Discussion Kinda off topic but does anyone know a small point and shoot camera
that also has full manual controls? Something the size of the Canon Powershots?
I love the Powershot SD400 but would really like to manually control
the shutter AND aperature!
I know there is LOADS of reviews/etc out there but my head just hurts
looking... already spent hours ...
I am going to do some trails out of Wawona next we

General Discussion The trail ends near El Cap/ Ribbon Creek.
So, yes the valley is accessible.
You run into Old Big Oak Flat Rd after 4 trail miles at Cascade Creek.
The trailhead is actually called Old Big Oak Flat Rd I believe.

General Discussion There is the section from Tamarack Flat campground entrance to Crane Flat (just east of the Tuolumne Grove parking area/ just north of Crane Flat / just east of the Yosemite Institute/ just east of where 120 closes for the winter) as I mentioned above.
As you drive east keep your eyes peeled left and you will see it. At the Tamarack flat campground entrance across 120 there is a wire rope across

General Discussion Old Big Oak flat road starts at the Big Oak Flat Entrance station and
heads east past Hodgdon Meadow Campground. After that it is bike
or walk only thru the Tuolumne Grove back to 120. From there it
sorta parallels north of 120 and crosses back down to Tamarack Flat
Camground. You can drive from 120 down to Tamarack Flat Camground
of course. The section north of 120 is hike only. Been there and i

General Discussion Hi.
I did this as a two day backpack trip in Oct of '05.
Starr King "Lake" is pretty much a marshy pond this time of year...
It may be a meadow this year... It is completely surrounded by forest.
And not too impressive...
You do get see the top of Starr King though...
Maybe it is much nicer in the spring.. but ... it's not spring...
That being said the trees that surround it gi

General Discussion Personally I am completely against any electronic devices in the backcountry.
Except of course my Archos 604 PMP. Load it up with TV shows
and movies and wala... that 11 hours of tent time is TV time baby!
I am watching the "stars" in my tent!

General Discussion My guess is that this occurred in the south part of the park near Wawona.
Makes you wonder how much more is occurring south of the park.
This kind of activity makes my blood boil more than horses on the trails!

Is this really really true? Been hiking in Sierra for many moons and
have seen LOADS of Rattle Snakes. (including in LYV and along
Merced River Canyon almost every time been thru there).
Also I have never heard any PCT hikers saying any of their
compadres got bit or heard of people being bit.
The other thing I've heard is that most people get

<http://www.nps.gov/archive/yose/wilderness/permits.htm#reserve>
Click on "Trailheads and dates listed indicate which days are full"
half way down. You'll see that Sunrise and ALL of LYV (Glacier,
Happy Isles) are fully booked for ALL of July.
So chances are you will have to burn a day to get a permit.
This is also why the HD c

General Discussion Michael,
You'll find water everywhere in June. Any blue on a topo will have water this time of year. That being said I highly recommend checking out Virginia Canyon. You'll be off the PCT at that point so not so many people will be running by... Virginia Pass and Summit Lake have great views. Virginia Pass trail is a use trail now so pretty much just go up.
Anyway, have fun! There isn't a trai
