Buzz Off ! (...is a line of clothing Ex Officio makes you might want to look into)
You can Google it, or look at some online retailers who sell some of the line marked down, such as Sierra Trading Post.
You also can read reviews of Buzz Off clothing at Sierra Trading Post (and other sites) by people who have actually used it (I have not).
I looked at Sierra Trading Post, and I see some favora

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Perhaps the manufacturer of the Pumice Flat bear boxes mentioned above tested them using an angry ground squirrel!

General Discussion That's pretty sad. I suspect several companies might make these (?), and I recall a program I once saw on TV where one manufacturer actually tested their bear boxes using (captive) bears, to 'field test' their effectiveness.
A thought occurred to me just now, with roughly 1/3 of the tent cabins/cabins at Curry being permanently eliminated, I wonder what will become of the new bear boxes that wer

General Discussion Frank FurterQuoteOne issue concerns the size of many family coolers and the size of the storage boxes
Yes, exactly! I have not been to Lodgepole in Sequoia for many years now, but as far back as 2000 there were already jumbo-sized bear boxes in Azela campground in Kings Canyon, and I understand they're also in all the campgrounds down at the bottom of Kings Canyon as well. Why does Yosemite l

General Discussion Yep, I've been locking the bear boxes in my campsites at Yosemite & SEKI for the better part of 20 years now, you're
allowed to 'do as you please' in your own campsite. Trailheads it's verboten, as it also is for the bear boxes in the
center of the Curry apple orchard parking lot. However, when they still had the bear boxes stacked along the end
of the Curry parking lot (the bear boxes nea

General Discussion I've used the newer, larger bear boxes in Upper Pines, and they have a built in hasp (or whatever it's called) on each door to allow you to put a lock thru. I always use a Master key lock. The older (smaller) style bear boxes in the remainder of Upper Pines, and all of North and Lower Pines are also lockable.
I've never seen a bear box in Yosemite Valley campgrounds with no allowance to lock the

General Discussion Speaking of bear boxes in Upper Pines (and the newer, larger style pictured above), has anyone seen any
new bear boxes this year in North Pines or Lower Pines by any chance?
I'm sure the answer is "no", but I only ask because they installed new bear boxes in Curry Village a year
or two ago, and when I arrived to camp at North Pines last year, there were new fire rings and picnic tabl

General Discussion As far as "campers that made absolute certain they they included Chlorox to add to their dishwashing effort",
I've been camping there for years in just about every Valley campground, and never used bleach in my dishwater,
and have never gotten ill. The tap water is very pure there.
I would point out this is the summer, it's very hot there right now, and children love to splash aroun

General Discussion There are no showers at Crane Flat, but if you can live without that, as eeek said,
it will be quieter than down in the Valley at that time of year.
Me, I'd choose Upper Pines for the showers alone, and the proximity to everything,
since you said you aren't planning any major hikes. You can also rent bicycles
at Curry Village and peddle around the Valley

General Discussion I'll 2nd what y_p_w said, you should have no problems tent camping in any "RV" designated site in Yosemite.
If you want complete piece of mind, you can always phone the campground office (located in the Curry Village parking lot), and ask a ranger directly, the phone number is (209) 372-8502.

we camped in Hospitality. No one charged us for a shower. no one checked if we belonged there.
Just to clarify, if you stay in Curry or Housekeeping, the showers are free and included in the price of your accommodations.
You're supposed to show your room key or whatever to the attendant to be allowed free admittance, but this is sometimes laxly enforced as you discovered (&quo

General Discussion Thanks, If it was $5 at Curry, then it's $5 at Housekeeping still as well. I agree, $5 is a bit much. I've found it to be hit and miss as to when there's an attendant on duty, at least in the Fall.
I'll miss the Nob Hill shower house that has been closed, with it's individual shower stalls. The recently remodeled shower house by the pool has adjoining shower stalls with like 12" or so gaps

General Discussion Anyone been to the Valley since the last post above?
I'm curious about the shower situation this year myself.
With the mobs that descend there for the summer season, you have full capacity at Curry, Housekeeping and the Campgrounds, but one less shower house available (and a large one at that).
Have they plopped down any temporary 'shower trailers' anywhere (like they did when they remodeled

There's been far more than 4 deaths. It's been about 10 since 1971, and but there has been a relative rash of fatalities (4) since 2006. Most of the fatalities were due to the weather conditions, including a lighting strike that killed two people at the top.
Yep, I was thinking there had to be more than that also! Thanks for the clarification y_p_w .

The last hiker who died on Half Dome was Hirofumi Nohara, who slipped to his death on the cables on June 16, 2007.
Two other Half Dome fatalities involved women who were hiking on Half Dome when the cables were down. These were Jennifer Bettles, who died on April 21, 2007 and Emily Sandal, who died on November 8, 2006.
I was wondering about this, so in the entire history of t
