There's fish in the creek here and there...
So yes, there's always some water in the creek.
How it is looking is perhaps another story.
And yes, there may be stretches where you don't see any.

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra That's really cool.
Some people just like to walk.
For giggles... looked in Gaia because I have a lot of my gps tracks from over the years...
And since they are in folders they do all the math for me (well I had to do a little bit)
In Yosemite only... 2009-2016 (I haven't put last few years into folders)
Over 7300 miles on a "few" trips
So I guess I walked New York City

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Sorry so late in response to this. Yeah, you should definitely just stay on trail.
PM me and I'll say what I really think. I don't want to put a route here and then people
try to do this or that and then it's shrubby and they get mad at me.
I mean Indian Canyon is free and clear baby!

Hey chick-on (or anybody else), do you think this route would be passable as far as creek crossings go if I went ahead and did it in late June? I'd like to go when there is something left to see at Waterwheel Falls.
Also, are the side trips to Le Conte Point and Rancheria Mountain summit worthwhile?
Sorry didn't respond until now. Wanted to see something first hand first. Jud

General Discussion Wow. Thanks.
Yeah. It's been a pretty rough year. Well. It was pretty nice to start with in Jan and start of Feb then it kind of went not so great.
And then Coronavirus hit … sigh...
Healthy and happy though. But missing the mountains for sure.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
I was going to make some videos of old trips and such and post them but … I dunno.
And working

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Unless it's a trivial route you won't know unless YOU go with YOUR group. You should always be prepared to
turn around, scope out ahead for your group, help your group through difficult sections, and decide enough
is enough. You should also take care of everyone in your group and know exactly
where you are at all times (there's no excuse really for this in this day and age imo anymore).

Mr. chick-on, I too was very saddened by the murdering of said Sequoia trees. I had enjoyed their beauty for many years, and while bicycling about the Valley I would always stop by to admire them and pay them a visit. I somewhat understand the NPS logic for removing them, but also support the position put forth by several here as to what exactly is the definition of 'natural' in the

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Damn. Was up Quartzite in 2009 Oct. Time flies.
Anyway, yeah, I'm a "get off my lawn" old guy now. (I'm not THAT old tho really)
Luckily Yosemite has about 20 other "High Routes"

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Ok. Cool. Yosemite is Better
This was my issue with publishing a route:
"There were about 20 entries this year, all citing the YHR, including 5 or so thru hikes, a pretty big increase in visitation for this minor peak."
Why I quit putting detailed things on the internet. And stopped posting trip reports.
And why I was a bit irked for what I deem a money grab.
Personally I'

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra I thought perhaps there would be an outcry. Once again I am wrong.
Insult to injury:
I can take solace they didn't think the other surviving 28 around the Ahwahnee needed to be cut down too I guess.
When something feels so wrong. I just think it has to be. But that's me.
Goodbye dear friends. You will be missed. I doubt many even knew of you.
Peace

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion JKW found this:
https://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectID=88097
And we did go talk to people in the Visitor Center.
(they know way more than what we were expecting... so huge kudos there)
So we kind of knew the answer. Just seems this got steamrolled by everyone.
Anyway, personally I'm pissed.
So just cut any Sequoia that was planted? Cut the other 30+ in the va

You went and got to Vernon and said... um... yeah, maybe some other trip?
Anywho. I had to login so I thought I'd post.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I have flikr account. ez to insert via share with that.
So you never know... and I assumed you doing this fall. Yes?
Also, seriously. Seems like you have not been in Jack Main Canyon.
If so... I'd really recommend just doing the trail. It's very nice actually.
I'd skip Laurel and spend the efforts to get to Jack Main or Vernon
if you must do Branigan.
It's easy to avoid peeps. Ju

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Just to be clear... here is a picture of heading to Middle Branigan…
That's Gibson way in the background...
And the view of Middle once you can touch it...
On the lake... pretty clear...
But... I'm also looking at the area between Middle and Upper
Middle from Andrews flank...
Lots of yummy...
And Upper:

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Ok, my AI on my parser gets it wrong.
I have come down just south of 7438T. I don't think I would do that again.
I don't think I would go up that way.
I have gone up and down the outlet many many times. Like maybe over 10.
It's not too difficult. I'd rec going near 6634T … very nice open areas
and then east of the outlet. Follow outlet all the way to the lake.
Not sure there is much

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Send me the map. It no show.

The area that has the peninsula.
I wouldn't visit the north side again myself.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion What's the goal? See the area? See the lakes? View the lakes? Get to Avonelle? Explore?
Hitting Avonelle on the north end? Confused by that.
Some amazing area there. I can only tell you what I've done and what I would and wouldn't do.
Though personally I don't always know what I'm gonna do until I do it.
You can hike north of Vernon and around the north end of Branigan and then u
