You forgot the part where management required everyone to purchase the sodas (some at a substantially increased price) whether they wanted soda or not. Oh, and also the part where management said we don't really know what will be in the machine, we will need to put it in here in order to find out.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion This was exactly my plan. I know that I can't directly give it to someone else but letting them know when I am canceling it so that they might be able to grab it up doesn't seem to break any rules.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I have a campsite in Lower Pines for 7 nights - June 14-21 that I am going to cancel. Contact me via private message if you are interested and I will let you know exactly when I am canceling so you might be able to pick it up. I really don't want the scalpers to get it.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Here is more info from the elcapreport.com written by Tom Evans...
In other news: I talked with Mark, the surviving climber from the accident yesterday, this morning and he told me about the events that befell them. Mason was leading around the big, blocky overhang, just above the bivy, at the start of the final 700ft dihedral. He was about 20ft above the belay, when a piece of gear he place

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion While I am glad that the scalpers have been (for the most part) shut down, I don't have a problem with the idea of folks sharing their sites. Sites in the valley are so hard to come by and now that you need a permit for a specific day to climb Half Dome, it becomes very difficult to get a site and a permit for the same day. I don't think that charging someone to share your site is a good idea b

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I think we are near the top of the first loop when you come in the campground. There weren't many spaces left when we decided to go and having never been there before we grabbed what we could. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the site is fairly level.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Spending a week in June in Lower Pines. Hoping to finally do Half Dome if we win the lottery. Definitely hiking to Hidden Falls (thanks to the great folks on this forum for the directions) Hopefully headed to Cabo San Lucas in July then Twin Lakes Campground near Mammoth in early August. We have never been to Twin Lakes so if anyone has any input I would love to hear it.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Thanks, I had actually seen this report which gave me more cause for concern. My understanding is that Hidden Falls is not that far from Mirror Lake so we weren't planning on venturing too far into the canyon.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I was looking at a Yosemite map recently and saw this "Hiking in Tenaya Canyon is dangerous and strongly discouraged". I also saw a post on another site which refers to Tenaya Canyon as the Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite. My daughter and I camp in the valley each summer and do the basic day hikes (4 mile, Panorama, Mist, Muir) but we would like to try to go to Hidden Falls this year. I

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I would pick Upper Pines over Wawona. I just looked and there are still about a dozen sites available during the dates you mentioned. Make a reservation so you don't have to worry about how late you arrive.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion We have been camping in Yosemite for a week in June the past 9 years and then we head to Kings Canyon/Hume Lake in late July each year. We have tried Lodgepole a couple of times but really like Hume much better. Reservations for those campgrounds are 6 months out but definitely much easier to get than Yosemite. Last month we got our June Yosemite reservations arriving on the 14th until the 21s

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I actually saw one catch a salmon and take it to the shore to eat. Most of them seem to stand there looking very hungry. Between the bears and the puppy-cam I am not getting much work done!

General Discussion Don't know if this has already been posted but I was just watching this very cool webcam of bears catching salmon in Alaska. Check it out... http://explore.org/#!/live-cams/player/brown-bear-salmon-cam-brooks-falls
