Park staff have completed the May 1 snow surveys. Warm temperatures in April caused substantial melting of the snowpack at the lower elevation sites. The Tuolumne drainage is at 67% of average, and the Merced drainage at 84%. The disparity between the drainage basins has more to do with the location of the snow courses than the actual conditions; one third of the courses in the Tuolumne watershed are under 7000' but none of the courses in the Merced watershed are under that elevation.
