Fire Managers are taking advantage of the good air quality and dispersal conditions to begin pile burning in the community of El Portal. The placement of hose lines and other fire protection measures are being set-up today. The piles to be burned are those in Old El Portal along Crane Creek and the water tanks. Weather permitting; the project should take a few days to complete. This project will proceed slowly, and carefully, with prudent and mindful planning. The operation will be conducted by hand crews and supported by engines.
If favorable conditions continue, this project will be followed by grass burning.
