There's a chance of snow this week:

A COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVER NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA BY WEDNESDAY BRINGING RAIN AND SNOW TO THE SIERRA ALONG
WITH MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES. HIGH TEMPERATURES ON WEDNESDAY AND
THURSDAY WILL DROP INTO THE UPPER 50S AND LOWER 60S IN WESTERN NEVADA
VALLEYS AND 40S IN THE LAKE TAHOE AREA. SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO
DROP TO AROUND 6500 FEET OR NEAR LAKE LEVEL LATE WEDNESDAY INTO
THURSDAY.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING
THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.

A DEVELOPING PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO AND
ACROSS CENTRAL CALIFORNIA WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY. THIS
STORM WILL HAVE ENOUGH COLD AIR TO BRING THE THREAT OF
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL TO ELEVATIONS ABOVE 8000 FEET WEDNESDAY
EVENING...AND THEN AS COLDER AIR ARRIVES ON THURSDAY...LOWER SNOW
LEVELS TO AROUND 6000 FEET. AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 7000 FEET
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION MAY EXCEED 6 INCHES IN THE YOSEMITE PARK
AREA. SINCE THIS IS THE FIRST "WINTER-LIKE" STORM...WINTER STORM
AND HEAVY SNOW WARNING CRITERIA ARE LOWER THAN DURING MID WINTER.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...AND GUSTY WINDS. ALTHOUGH VERY HEAVY SNOW IS NOT EXPECTED
AT THIS TIME...SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW COMBINED WITH COLD
TEMPERATURES CAN MAKE CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS FOR OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES. HIKERS...CAMPERS AND OTHER OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS
VENTURING INTO THE SIERRA THIS WEEK...SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR
WINTER-LIKE CONDITIONS AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...OR YOUR FAVORITE NEWS SOURCE...
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS EARLY
SEASON WINTER WEATHER EVENT.
