And to think Josiah Whitney disputed John Muir's theory about glaciation.

What's interesting to me is how much of it actually is bare granite.

Do you have some info on the picture? distance? date? method (single or multiple photos)?

That shot was probably taken sometime in mid to late September.
Take a look at Tuolumne Meadows or any of the other meadows in the park.
Areas like Rancheria Mountain look entirely granite but are far from it.

If you really wanna see some "granite" take a look at google earth in Kings Canyon.
Yosemite is mostly forest compared to SEKI High Country.

Dang. Off by a month.

2001 was a very bad year for snow... so I'm taking it as a win...

That explains the dust cloud.

Ok. I got nothing after that dust storm. Tom will be happy.

If you download the high-resolution version from earthobservatory you can even spot portions of Tioga Road.
