Backpacking is an extremely social experience. It's pretty hard for it not to boost your social skills

You backpack to meet people? You can do that at the local bar. Forget it.

Neanderthals inhabit bars. People backpack.

They're not even talking about "backpacking".

More like "rucksacking". Travels in Europe kinda thing.
Last time I checked there were no Hostels in the backcountry.

But... lemme see... ah... yes... There is a Tuolumne Meadows.. High ... SierraCamp!

Lessee....

backpackers= healthy people who mostly value good health and a appreciation of nature.

barflies= unhealthy people who stay out late at night and sleep in in the morning

Oh, yeah, I can see perfect compatability here. Maybe the bars will start stocking Trail Mix, instead of beer nuts.

Vince, Arn't you the one who says that you spend more time talking to people on the trail, than worrying about finishing the hike?

I remain inherently suspicious of single males in the backcountry-- too many nutcases, or at the very least marginal personalities, that make the woods their summer home.

The cure for a fallacious argument is a better argument, not the suppression of ideas.
