...HOT TEMPERATURES EXPECTED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK...

STRONG HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER CALIFORNIA FOR THE REMAINDER
OF THE WEEK. HIGH TEMPERATURES FROM 101 TO 105 DEGREES ARE
EXPECTED IN THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY AND FOOTHILLS TODAY...AND EVEN
HOTTER TEMPERATURES ARE POSSIBLE TOMORROW AND THURSDAY. HIGH
TEMPERATURES MAY EXCEED 110 DEGREES IN REDDING AND RED BLUFF
THURSDAY. IT WILL ALSO BE VERY WARM IN THE MOUNTAINS. HIGH
TEMPERATURES NEAR 90 DEGREES ARE LIKELY AT THE 5000 FOOT LEVEL ON
THURSDAY. HUNDRED DEGREE HEAT WILL CONTINUE IN THE INTERIOR VALLEY
AND FOOTHILLS THROUGH FRIDAY...BEFORE TEMPERATURES COOL BACK INTO THE
90S BY SUNDAY.

PEOPLE SENSITIVE TO HOT WEATHER SHOULD TAKE CAUTION TO PROTECT
THEMSELVES FROM HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES. MANY AREAS IN THE
FOOTHILLS AND NORTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY WILL REMAIN QUITE WARM
OVERNIGHT. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE FOOTHILLS AND FAR NORTHERN
SACRAMENTO VALLEY...INCLUDING THE REDDING AREA...MAY ONLY DROP INTO
THE 70S EARLY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY MORNINGS. ELSEWHERE IN THE
INTERIOR VALLEY...OVERNIGHT LOWS SHOULD DROP INTO THE 60S. PROLONGED
HOT TEMPERATURES CAN CAUSE STRESS ON CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY WHO DO
NOT HAVE ACCESS TO AIR CONDITIONING.

TO AVOID GETTING A HEAT RELATED ILLNESS...DRINK PLENTY OF
LIQUIDS...EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT THIRSTY. DRESS IN LOOSE FITTING AND
LIGHT WEIGHT CLOTHING AND WEAR LIGHT COLORS. IF POSSIBLE...AVOID
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY...WHICH IS
USUALLY BETWEEN NOON AND 5 PM. IF YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE...TRY TO
STAY IN THE SHADE AND AVOID VIGOROUS ACTIVITY.

CONSULT A PHYSICIAN TO SEE IF YOU ARE AT RISK FOR HEAT RELATED
ILLNESSES. CHILDREN AND THE ELDERLY TEND TO BE AT A GREATER RISK
BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT COOL THEIR BODIES AS EFFECTIVELY AS YOUNG
ADULTS. HEAT STROKE IS A POTENTIALLY FATAL ILLNESS THAT HAPPENS
WHEN A BODY`S TEMPERATURE REACHES 104 DEGREES...AND THE BODY`S
ABILITY TO SWEAT FAILS.

IF A PERSON EXPERIENCES HEADACHE...NAUSEA...FATIGUE...DRY AND
FLUSHED SKIN...A RAPID INCREASE IN HEART RATE OR CONFUSION...THEY
MAY BE SUFFERING FROM PRELIMINARY SIGNS OF HEAT ILLNESS. GET THE
PERSON TO A COOL PLACE IN THE SHADE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE...APPLY
A COOL COMPRESS TO THEIR BODY AND CONSULT A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.

Yeah, yeah, yeah..."Special Weather Statement" my FOOT!! This is just business as usual for the Central Valley in July-Aug. I had a very nice run tonight, anyway, cause there are no other desert rats (only roof rats) in my neck of the woods, so I had the trail all to myself! (I am hoping for the same thing when I do my run up Castle Peak on saturday!)
