BIGHORN CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA - A steep drop into the red-walled gully below would have been all but invisible until bison, fleeing Crow hunters in the dry foothills of the Pryor Mountains, stampeded to its very edge.
The great beasts in the lead might have pulled up short, recognizing the danger too late. Terrified animals running hell-bent behind them pushed their leaders over the edge and then themselves tumbled into the creek bed below......
