Construction Delays to Begin Along the Generals Highway
Road construction to improve sections of the Generals Highway in Sequoia National Park moved into a new phase today, in accordance with the contractual agreement between the National Park Service and Construction Development Systems.
Beginning Friday, July 17, pulverization will commence just north of Halstead Meadow and continue to Little Baldy summit. This will result in the removal of the asphalt surface, the road temporarily becoming a dirt-hardened surface until paving is complete. Travelers, especially motorcycle and bicycle riders, need to be cautious on these sections.
Pulverized sections of roadway will be signed accordingly, and a reduction in speed (25MPH) will be
posted.
Delays are as follows:
• Friday (7/17), Monday (7/20), and Tuesday (7/21) there will be thirty minute delays 6AM to 6PM.
• Beginning Wednesday (7/22) and until further notice delays will be one hour 8AM – 4PM and 30 minutes 6AM-7:30AM as well as 4:30PM – 6PM.
• Traffic release will occur at the top of the hour from both directions simultaneously for one-hour delays. Traffic release at the top and bottom of the hour from both directions simultaneously for 30 minute delays.
On a nearby section of road, Wuksachi Road intersection north to Halstead Meadow, there will be intermittent periods of miscellaneous work including underdrain installation. Continuous single lane traffic flow will occur with minimal delays.
