What happened to the Native people of Yosemite? Where did they go? Where did the end up?

Top photo; Piute boy in Yosemite. Bottom photo; Piute Chief in Yosemite. The earliest photos of photos taken of Indian people in Yosemite were of Paiutes. There is not one Yosemite photo titled Miwok in the late 1880s and early 1900s. But there are several photos with the title Piute (Paiute) taken in Yosemite. Yet if you go to Yosemite National Park the same Paiute photos are labeled Miwok, who were once enemies of the Paiutes. Miwoks were the workers and scouts for white even before they entered Yosemite Valley.

Ironically, when you think of it, even the word "indian" reflects a mistake by Columbus concerning the identity of New World indigenous peoples.
