I have no doubt that this is actually true - meat based diets for ANY creature, especially those that depend on domesticated animals as the food source, are going to be carbon and resource intensive in general. However, Jane #221 in the comments below has it right - unless we stop growing the human race beyond the bounds of this planet, NOTHING we do will make enough difference to matter in the long run.

I would never eat a cat, dog or any other living thing with a nervous system.

I am soooooo hungry

What animals eat a dog carcass? I mean, in the wild? Wolves and coyotes don't live forever, right?

Same mammals, birds, insects that eat any carrion. Wolves will kill and eat coyotes, ground squirrels will eat roadkill ground squirrels (makes for a massacre sometimes if the opportunists get hit by other vehicles) bears eat dead bears (recent grizzly kill by hunter in North of Yellowstone attracted lots of grizzlies), etc. Eagles are very active on dead animals (the noble eagle is a scavenger!). Wolves will kill non-pack wolves and, I am fairly sure that a wolf will eat an alien or "non-pack" wolf if condiitons allow.
