The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today said it would establish critical habitat for endangered jaguars (Panthera Onca) in the U.S. The decision effectively reverses a Bush-era policy that had avoided designating the jaguar's turf, and comes after several lawsuits filed by the Center for Biological Diversity

The Obama administration on Tuesday paved the way for the return of jaguars to the American Southwest by agreeing to designate a critical habitat for the biggest cat in the Western Hemisphere, which once roamed from California to Louisiana.

Grizzlies in the Sierra next? I keep asking this question and no one wants to answer. Grizzlies used to be indigenous.
