Quarry Exhibit Hall Reconstruction is On Schedule
Date: April 22, 2010

Dinosaur National Monument Superintendent Mary Risser reports that the project to rehabilitate the Quarry Exhibit Hall and construct a new visitor center is proceeding on schedule.

A major component of the project is the protection of the fossil wall. Says paleontologist Dan Chure, "This is the first time that a building that protects fossils will be demolished over those fossils. So the project is of great interest to the scientific community."

Protecting the fossils will involve a system with a rope grid a few feet above the fossil wall and a composite mesh placed on top of the rope grid. Scaffolding will suspend the grid over the wall, and plywood panels will create a flat face in front of the fossil wall and a flat decking system above it.

The installation of the protective system is expected to take about 30 days.
