The average snow depth is 6 feet. Workers have encountered depths in excess of 10 feet and the snow is very dense, slowing progress.</HTML>

<HTML>For someone who doesn't know the distrances on the Tioga road, how far are they in terms of percentages to where they need to be to get the road open? I know that no one can estimate the opening date, but I am trying to gauge if they are 50% of the way, 75%, etc.

<HTML>It looks about 2/3 to me. But even after plowing is complete they need to complete any repairs before the road is opened.</HTML>

<HTML>Rick, I appreciate the information.

What do you think the chances of Tioga Road being opened by May 26th are?</HTML>

<HTML>They'll be trying hard to get it open by then. I'd say there's a good chance. The current forcast has no more snow (or rain) in it for the next 7 days.</HTML>

<HTML>Checked the Yosemite website and they said the road should be open June 6th.

My trip starts the 12th! Hope there is not too much snow on the trails!</HTML>

<HTML>There's certainly lots of snow right now. I went up to Tioga Pass yesterday and sunk up to my mid-thigh in the soft spring snow.</HTML>

Note: Dana Meadow is quite near Tioga Pass!</HTML>

<HTML>If they June 6th date holds, does that mean that all of Tioga road will be shut until that date? Will people be able to drive up to the Ten Lakes area (from the West) before June 6th, or does the whole road open at once?

<HTML>Rick,

Do you know if it's possible to drive from the east side to Dana meadows and/or Toulumne meadows this weekend, before the road is officially open? Namely: 1) if they have plowed this section already and 2) is the road actually gated near the Tioga lodge?

Thanks, Lior.</HTML>

<HTML>You can drive to the east entrance. The gate is quite shut and there was still snow on the road last tuesday. They won't be letting cars past the gate until the road is entirely open unless there has been a big change in policy.</HTML>

<HTML>The road has been plowed all the way to the Tioga Pass gate. There are still 6 active avalanche zones that are delaying further work.</HTML>
