Grand Canyon, Ariz. – On Wednesday, November 3, at approximately 2:10 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report from a private river trip that they had discovered a man's body in the vicinity of river mile 21 on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park. Grand Canyon rangers were flown in via helicopter and arrived at the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m. They conducted initial investigations and prepared the body for transport. Due to the lateness of the hour, it was decided that rangers would stay with the body until it could be retrieved the following day.

On Thursday, November 4, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the body was retrieved via long-line operation (suspended below a helicopter) and flown to the Cliff Dweller's Air Strip near Highway 89A, north of the canyon. From there it was transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's office in Flagstaff, Arizona for autopsy and identification.

No further information is available at this time.

Grand Canyon National Park and Coconino County Sheriff's Office investigators are jointly conducting an investigation into this incident.
