ScienceDaily (Dec. 1, 2010) — The prevalence of global positioning system (GPS) devices in everything from cars to cell phones has almost made getting lost a thing of the past. But what do you do when your GPS isn't working? Researchers from North Carolina State University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have developed a shoe-embedded radar system that may help you find your way.

R U Kidding me?
What's wrong with driving around aimlessly once in awhile?

On a perhaps unrelated note... I wonder if as a society / species / whateva
we are getting dumber as time goes on. I guess it probably doesn't matter
since we will only be around for a spec of time geologically speaking.
But... I am BRILLIANT! Ask me anything! I KNOW the ANSWER!
uh... hang on... I need to find my iPhone to look it up...

*note - I don't really have an iPhone

I still prefer a 2D local positioning system.

A foot based inertial navigation system might help me inside a multilevel big-box store which is where I am most likely to get "turned around". I don't get lost outdoors. My wife does not understand how I can navigate in the wilderness but on rare occasion get disoriented inside a store. I tell her there's this, like, trail with visible horizons, Sun's location, etc. Cool Tux

Worse yet is being in a Home Depot or Costco that is a flipped version of the one at home.

Used to have that problem at a Fedco that wasn't my normal one. Made me feel a bit dizzy.
