Even as Mammoth’s town council moved to approve an agreement to subsidize some air service flights this week, county supervisors had three words to say: “Not so fast.”

“It’s been made clear that year- round air service increases property values in Mammoth and an increase in property values is an increase in the income coming into the general fund.”
That seems like quite a stretch!

About 15 years ago, a bunch of realtors convinced the residents of an Orange County city called El Toro (located about 20 miles from my house) to vote to rename the city Lake Forest because 'having a nice name would increase property values.'

Needless to say, the town contains neither a lake nor a forest.
(There is a reservoir that they call a lake.)

North Dakota was going to be renamed just Dakota, because "North" just sounded too cold!

Their year-round air service via Alaska/Horizon consists of two round trip flights in the winter and in the summer only one round trip from Los Angeles. Yes, it's a stretch.
