<HTML>Yosemite National Park fire crews plan to continue a prescribed burn in Yosemite Valley to protect structures from the threat of unwanted wildland fire and promote ecosystem health. Weather and air quality conditions permitting, the remaining 16 acres of this project are scheduled to burn on Wednesday, August 13th.

The burn will be located in Yosemite Valley, on the south bank of the Merced River, north of Southside Drive, west of the El Capitan Crossover Road. The total burn unit is 85 acres, 69 of which were burned last week. This is one of five valley units that Yosemite Fire Managers had planned to burn this year.

Park staff will monitor smoke on a consistent basis. However, due to the topography of Yosemite Valley, smoke may accumulate in the area and is typically more abundant at night and during the early morning hours. Take extra care while driving near the burn area, by observing all warning signs posted along the roadway and using your headlights when smoke is on the road. If you stop for questions or photographs, please pull safely off of the roadway into designated turnouts or parking areas.People with respiratory problems should use caution when exerting themselves in smoky areas.

Closures:
One lane of Southside Drive may be closed during the burn to all but emergency and fire vehicles.
The section of the Valley Floor Loop Trail that runs through the burn unit will also be closed between the Cathedral Beach Picnic Area and the El Capitan Crossover Bridge.

The Cathedral Beach Picnic Area will remain open, but due to its proximity to the burn unit, it will most likely be smoky.
