<HTML>Due to recent cooler weather, and higher humidity levels, fire behavior has decreased on all fires and as noted below, both the Kibbie and Tuolumne Fires are 100% contained.

Smoke on Tioga Road: Due to the both the Whiskey and Snow Fires' proximity to the Tioga Road, occasional smoke will be on the roadway. Drive with caution!

Trail closures: Due to the danger of fire behavior and possible falling limbs, snags, and rolling rocks and logs, six trail closures have occurred, for safety concerns.

One trail closure is along Kibbie Ridge. This trail is between the Kibbie Lake Junction, (East of Kibbie Lake near its entrance to Yosemite National Park) and Styx Pass (near its exit of Yosemite National park) along the Kibbie Ridge. (Kibbie Fire)

The second closure is the trail between Lake Eleanor and Kibbie Lake. (Kibbie Fire)

The Aspen Valley Trail along the Tuolumne River. (Tuolumne Fire)

The Ten Lakes Trail. (Whiskey Fire)

The trail between Ten Lakes and Lukens Lake. (Whiskey Fire)

The trail between Ten Lakes and May Lake. (Whiskey Fire)

Below is a list of currently burning fires, including their size, location, and detection date. No new fires have been detected since 9/6/03. * Indicates the date the fire was detected.

Active Fire Use Fires:

Snow (7/19*): As of 10/3 fire size is approximately 110 acres and fully contained. No new growth is expected (the reduction is due to better mapping). This fire is burning along the southside of Tioga Road between Porcupine Flat and the road to May Lake. (Mariposa County).

Starr Lake (9/4*): As of 10/3 fire size is approximately 40 acres, burning in patchy fuels in a sheltered area. This fire is burning NE of Mt Starr King and 2 miles South of Little Yosemite Valley. Smoke from this fire is visible from Glacier Point. (Mariposa County).

Whiskey (8/1*): As of 10/3 fire size is approximately 790 acres (reduction in acres due to better mapping), and is burning on both sides of the Tioga Road west of Yosemite Creek. Suppression actions were successfully implemented over the week to stop the spread of the fire on the south, west and east flanks. The north flank is boxed in by rocks.

Suppression Fires: Both the Kibbie and Tuolumne Fires were converted to suppression fires on September 26th, due to increased fire behavior and air quality concerns. These two fires now make up the Kibbie Complex. Necessary actions are being taken until full suppression. As of 10/3, both fires are fully contained and management of these two fires will be transitioned back to the Park on 10/5. Stanislaus NF will manage their portion of the Kibbie Fire.

Containment: 100%

Kibbie Complex:

Tuolumne Fire (10/3*): As of 10/3 fire size is 3,515 acres. This fire is located near the Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River drainage, west of White Wolf, and north of the Tioga Road. Crews are patrolling, mopping up and performing rehabilitation of fire lines.

Kibbie: This complex originally consisted of the following five fires and is currently the largest area burning in Yosemite. As of 10/3 fire size is estimated at 6,300 acres. Crews will continue to mop up and rehab fire lines. Final pockets of fuel will continue to burn out.

Early reports from firefighters and resource advisors indicate that fire severity was low to moderate, with very few completely burned out pockets of forest. The past few days have been successful with operational objectives and ecological benefits still being achieved. Smoke will continue to be visible on both fires as they continue to burn within their perimeters. (M. Ortiz)</HTML>
