is there any transportation from san francisco to yosemite?we will be coming in late september from florida but do not want to do the car thing-gas high cost of renting etc-are there posts of people who want to car pool to the park on certain dates? just curious-jfjazz7

There are bus tours from San Francisco. They could vary from one day to several days.

As an alternative, one could also take the train from Oakland to Merced or Fresno and then bus into the park. It would not need to be a tour perse if you wanted to freelance the trip.

Right now, I don't think a full size bus can get through on 140 at the slide, so Fresno might be only option, unless there is a small YARTS bus that could get you from Mariposa into the Valley. Then, however, your ticket prices might be as high as a car plus gas.

Wouldn't most large buses from San Francisco travel via 120?

Possibly. (New) Priest Grade was widened last year to accommodate them, since 140 was blocked.

I've been noticing more buses on 120.

That's a lot of tight curves for a bus.

Which uses 140 via Merced for the AmBus.

There might be ways to avoid Priest Grade. Maybe a detour using CA-49?

There are back roads there, but they are slower and longer. Plus you have to stop for the occasional livestock in the road.

When (new) Priest Grade was closed for widening, truck traffic was routed through the back way. It was not convenient for them.
