If you believed bears were terrorizing your neighborhood, would you leave a couple of moose hindquarters laying on the lawn all night? This is one of many incongruous and inconsistent tidbits Brian Garst told Alaska Dispatch reporter Craig Medred in a couple of articles about his shooting of a female brown bear with three cubs in Anchorage. Garst has been cited for the shooting, but may not go to court. An assistant district attorney must decide if the case is justified and can be won in court. I believe in the rule of law. But before Garst is absolved because someone in a suit and tie thinks he shot the bear in self defense, as he claims, I’d like to invoke the law of parsimony, which is "the simplest explanation is usually best."
