Climbing Ranger Nick Hall, 34, was killed yesterday afternoon while attempted to rescue stranded hikers on Emmons Glacier. Nick had been with Mountain Rainier for four years and was a respected and skilled member of the Search and Rescue team. He represented the very best in public service, risking his own safety in order to rescue others from danger

Yosemite had its US flags at half mast for him Saturday and Sunday.

We were at Allegheny Portage Railroad Historic Site in Pennsylvania and the flags were at Half mast there.

A side note: For such a small NPS unit it has an incredible visitor center. A beautiful stone building that is almost twice the size of the visitor center in Yosemite valley.
