It's not too exciting... I just love that picture and the fact the
"teacher became the student" on this trip.
<insert corny Japanese Hong Kong Phoey music here>
This trip was suppose to be Sunrise TH over Clouds Rest, up Half Dome,
back the JMT and out the same Sunrise TH.
I don't recall exactly how the idea of "I'm not bringing a tent" came about
since it was only a 3 day trip and it was late in the year.
Perhaps he said "I'll just tough it out". In any case, you see his "tent".
That picture was taken at the Clouds Rest trail Jct. at Sunrise Creek from
the comfort of my tent which is pictured in the background here:

(that's Lake Benson... and the tarp is Mike's... (which kicked butt))
(this was in his "Jardine" days...)
On the top of Clouds Rest the weather really starting coming in...
As we were coming down everything became completely socked in.
Vividly remember a guy and his buddy, who was bitching and moaning
about the guy draggin his butt up the hill, not making it to the top
before it got socked. (bummer)
I let him sit on his log out there for a little bit basking in my "brilliance" to
not forgo the tent. Luckily it's a small 2 person tent so we both stayed
warm and dry as it rained on and off thru the night.
The next day we started up the JMT and it started snowing almost immediately...
so we ended up only going about 4 miles that day before it started really
coming down and we ditched it into the tent.
Here's the few pictures we have from that trip:

It really was a great trip...
So beautiful in the morning after having to keep pushing snow off the
tent during the night...
Moral of the story is... Bring someone with a tent.
