Been wanting to put this picture up for a while.

This is the new and improved one man tent.

It's has numerous advantages:
- sets up easily
- lightweight
- free standing (no poles required, although you may have one...)
- low cost
- blends into the environment
- is "green"
- solves the mid-night "duty" problem
- is highly fashionable

Can only think of 1 disadvantage:
- might be a bit too easy to see what you are really doing in there...

If you want one. Just email me.
Act now for the low low cost of ten payments of $9.99.
S&H free.

(and, yes, I have too much time on my hands)

Everything I know I learned from Chick-on is looking at you!

This is at the junction of the trail down from Clouds Rest and the John Muir Trail.

It was raining and near freezing. Dale has lots more to say about this picture and I'm sure that if anybody asked he would be more than happy to elaborate.

YOOO HOOO!!! Opening Hailing Frequencies:

YO, Dale, spin us a yarn about this pic!

BTW, I thought that my hefty bag up the Mist Trail was the pinnacle of mountain chic

It's not too exciting... I just love that picture and the fact the
"teacher became the student" on this trip.
<insert corny Japanese Hong Kong Phoey music here>

This trip was suppose to be Sunrise TH over Clouds Rest, up Half Dome,
back the JMT and out the same Sunrise TH.

I don't recall exactly how the idea of "I'm not bringing a tent" came about
since it was only a 3 day trip and it was late in the year.
Perhaps he said "I'll just tough it out". In any case, you see his "tent".

That picture was taken at the Clouds Rest trail Jct. at Sunrise Creek from
the comfort of my tent which is pictured in the background here:
<http://picasaweb.google.com/dale.dekeyser/Yose#5296731223756280530>;
(that's Lake Benson... and the tarp is Mike's... (which kicked butt))
(this was in his "Jardine" days...)

On the top of Clouds Rest the weather really starting coming in...
As we were coming down everything became completely socked in.
Vividly remember a guy and his buddy, who was bitching and moaning
about the guy draggin his butt up the hill, not making it to the top
before it got socked. (bummer)

I let him sit on his log out there for a little bit basking in my "brilliance" to
not forgo the tent. Luckily it's a small 2 person tent so we both stayed
warm and dry as it rained on and off thru the night.
The next day we started up the JMT and it started snowing almost immediately...
so we ended up only going about 4 miles that day before it started really
coming down and we ditched it into the tent.

Here's the few pictures we have from that trip:

(pre-digital)

It really was a great trip...
So beautiful in the morning after having to keep pushing snow off the
tent during the night...

Moral of the story is... Bring someone with a tent. smiling smiley

You forgot to add the "And, if you call within the next 20 minutes, we'll send you a second "miracle tent" absolutely free! (plus shipping and handling of only $14.95)
8^)

Enjoyed the story though. I remember sleeping outside as a kid when tents were large, heavy, stinky, and a big chore to put up. Even in good weather, I sleep better in a tent and on something soft...I'll take the "extra" weight any day.

I bought one of those about five years ago.

It's mint, still in the original packaging. Bought it just before I hiked the Mist Trail for the first time. It was a warm day and Vernal Fall's deluge was a welcome relief (luckily my camera didn't short out).

Going through my backpack last weekend, found it at the bottom, all nicely folded up. I said to myself, "I'm going to need that someday."

Then I pulled out all the other stuff I don't use during a day hike. "Aha!" I said. "No wonder this thing weighs 25 lbs!"

Bill;

what i like about your tent, is how transportable it is.

I didn't realize the actual value was so high. Change that to "call in the next 20 minutes and get another miracle tent free! (plus shipping and handling of twelve easy monthly payments of 14.95 per tent)".

I carry one of these in Az as an emergency "tent" should it rain (fat chance). well, it finally happened to rain this last may (it actually snowed at the higher elevations) and I used the thing. PROBLEM: When I tried to fold it up and re-pack it, I found that it had quadrupled in size, and not only would it not fit in the nifty little storage pack, I could hardly find the space in my backpack to stuff it!!
