A portion of the southwestern corner of Yellowstone National Park will be temporarily closed starting September 4. The closure is needed so park staff can repair, restore and recover a section of previously pristine backcountry where an illegal trail has caused resource damage.

A remote section of the Bechler area along the southwest boundary of the park will be closed while repairs are underway. This closure will not affect any visitors using the park’s authorized trail system. Signs and maps will be posted at access points along that section of the park boundary. Anyone having specific questions about this closure may contact the Chief Ranger’s Office at 307-344-2101 or the Bechler Ranger Station at 406-581-7071 for more information.

"Illegal Trail" -- Are they referring to a use trail that wore in over time, or did someone(s) go in and cut a trail, illegally?

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

They didn't explain and I'm wondering if it's an OHV trail.

I had not thought of that angle; an OHV trail in the park would definitely get everyone's attention.

Don't know how old the trail is, but if it's an OHV trail, it should be visible from aerial photos like those shown on Google Earth if a aerial photo of that area was taken after the trail had been created.
