Yet more snow photos

I finally got some of the photos from my visit to the valley last week posted. If you haven't had your fill of snow, or snow photos yet,

http://www.pbase.com/roberthouse/yos_winter

As I said on the page, there's nothing that's even close to waking up early when there's fresh snow in the valley, so if you can figure out a way, pack up your boots and get up there while you can.

Here's one that's not in the gallery, that I was a little surprised to see

The Lost Arrow rapid transit system, complete with fresh snow. Would have been great if someone had been going across 8^).

(edit...if the link in Daniel's post didn't work to show the photo, the link above should)

That was taken from Cook's meadow, among the trees across from the Falls bus stop.

Gary,

I particularly liked your photo of Sunbeam & Snow Flakes. It just catches one of those silent and private moments in the forest that rarely get photographed.

As you're looking up at Yosemite Falls, look to the right. It's more or less visible depending on where you're standing, but you can see it pretty easily from Cook's meadow (just east of the Lodge).

It's easy to see if you know it's there, but not so easy to get to. You can see it on the right in this photo:

It's a favorite for some climbers...the rope transit is a way to exit without having to climb back down. There are also those who 'tightrope' walk across...not on the ropes you see in the photo, of course. Some nights you can see lights up there from climbers. Not the best place to spend the night though 8^).

Seriously question. Does anyone spend their time on ledges just to get around backcountry camping restrictions? I found it odd that permits are required to camp in the backcountry, but climbing or sleeping on a wall or ledge requires no permit.

I'm thinking someone might just hike up there and rappel down to a ledge and find a place to sleep.
