Pinon Park Fire 100% Contained at South Rim of Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Ariz.–On Wednesday, June 3 at approximately 3 pm the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a wildland fire at Pinon Park located within the South Rim Village. Wildland fire teams responded to Pinon Park, a residential neighborhood on the South Rim. Resources responding include three wildland fire engines and one structural engine and approximately 18 crew members. The park helicopter also responded. The fire is currently less than one acre and 50% contained and located south of Pinon Park. The fire is burning in a previously treated area and consists mainly of grass and dead and down trees. Crews expect to have the fire contained this evening. No structures are threatened and residents of Pinon Park do not need to evacuate.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further information is available at this time.

Grand Canyon, Ariz.–Fire crews report that the Pinon Park fire is now 100% contained. On Wednesday, June 3 at approximately 3 pm the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a wildfire at Pinon Park located within the South Rim Village.

Wildland fire teams responded to Pinon Park, a residential neighborhood on the South Rim. Resources responding include three wildland fire engines and one structural engine and approximately 18 crew members. The park helicopter also responded. The fire was contained at 1 acre and was located just south of Pinon Park. The fire burned in a previously treated area and consists mainly of grass and dead and down trees. No structures were threatened and residents of Pinon Park did not need to evacuate. Firefighters worked into the evening to complete mop up operations. Residents may smell smoke well into the evening and in the morning.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
