...A MAJOR CHANGE IN THE WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...
AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS HEADED RAPIDLY TOWARDS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THIS WILL LEAD TO A RETURN OF RAIN ALONG WITH MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES TO THE REGION.
LATEST FORECAST MODELS TIME THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION DURING THURSDAY MORNING OVER THE NORTH END OF THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY AND IN THE AFTERNOON FOR THE SACRAMENTO REGION AND NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY.
SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE REGION THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND ALONG WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA. SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP TO AROUND 5500 FEET IN THE NORTH AND 6500 FEET FOR THE NORTHERN SIERRA LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING AFTER THE COLD FRONT PASSES AND SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE.
DUE TO THE CURRENT RAPID PACE OF THE SYSTEM RAIN COULD END UP ARRIVING A LITTLE EARLIER THAN IS CURRENTLY FORECASTED. ANYONE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...ESPECIALLY BACK COUNTRY HIKERS AND CAMPERS...ARE ADVISED TO BE PREPARED FOR WET AND COOL CONDITIONS AND TO PAY CLOSE
ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER FORECASTS THIS WEEK. SHOWERY AND COOL WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.
