San Franciscans will soon have to learn how to ration our precious Hetch Hetchy Reservoir water after a 25-year long deal with twelve other suburban cities expires in June.

When the water is really low you can see the segment of the old road that went to Lake Eleanor.

Certainly don't want a Dam/no Dam discussion...
But here is what could have been... although fat chance we wouldn't have put campgrounds, etc. there:

It is what it is. Yes, lets not try to unscramble the egg. Fat chance.

Besides, there would be a big ugly toilet bowl ring if they drained it.....wink

I made this point before.... Lake Eleanor... Cherry Lake... many many others...
Remove Eleanor dam first and let nature take over... and see what happens...
in 30 years... if it's not too shabby then revisit it...

Removing Eleanor first for a real test of recovery and rehabilitation could sway me. Unfortunately I won't be here in 60-70 years to see how it plays out.

Of course silly... The water in Don Pedro is SOOO much warmer.

Maybe "Mr. Clean Toilet Bowl Cleaner" would do the trick.

Flush it down and... wa la!... the trees are back... the 5000 cubic yards of sand they scraped out...
and all the debris they threw in there... all gone...

Is there any difference between the water in Hetch Hetchy and Don Pedro??

You know, it might be better to be left the vision of with how Hetch Hetchy was rather than what it would look like after the dam is removed. Like visiting an old girl friend 40 yrs later.

The thing they do have going is that they didn't go and blast the crapola
out of the rock "protrusion" that exists between Kolana and Wapama.

Still think drain Eleanor first as experiment. Hmm... come to think of it
there have been dams removed in Washington or Oregon... what is going on there?
If only I didn't have a "real" job...

There is a dam being removed in Montana, not a pretty sight or site:
http://www.meic.org/mining/mine_cleanup/milltown-dam

The Milltown Dam has toxic sediment issue to deal with. Interesting that they built a rail spur just like for the construction of Hetch Hetchy.
