Is that the view from the far left side of the mountain before you climb the last pitch to the peak?

If so, it was on the back side of this ledge where I took shelter from the wind, while staring at a view similar to the top of this thread (billy might have a picture of this view). However, being able to reach out and almost touch that crusty mass on the back of the mountain (it was only about 2 feet from my feet) was a dramatic moment in itself.

I spent most of today wondering who I was going to talk into going back up this mountain while the snow conditions are perfect (so I can glissade from the very tippy top)

Didja hear that, Mikey???

Yes! I remember this view quite well, but with more of the cornice cutting off the part of the view to the right. The view of Mono in the background and the frozen lake in the foreground was enough to stare at for a long time.

Chick-on is completely immune to altitude sickness..rumor is that he summited BEE-fore Billy did.

Conditions near the Summit were unseasonably cold (without wind chill, somewhere in the 30's would be my guess) and very very cold prevailing wind froze your hands if you did not have gloves (good thingy goats have hooves) I made it to the far left ledge that allows for almost the same views as pictured above (about 700ft below the Dana Summit)(12,300ft) But, as usual, altitude sickness snatched away my breakfast, orienatation (wandering around a boulderfield for an hour is a hint, vomiting/dizziness/chills cinches the deal) and ability to continue, so all I was left with was common sense. However, I was high enough to traverse the face of Dana and take advantage of some of the best late-season Glissading in the universe...see above

Try the north side of the pass between Roosevelt and Upper McCabe: still a year-round affair. (It's even more fun when you're doing it with a pack on... makes you wish that you could do the standing glissade.)

*Sigh*

As is always the case, I decended 1000ft and I was perfectly fine -- well enough that after glissading down the face of Dana, Billy and I almost jogged the whole way back to trail head -- it took us an hour.

While I am sure that water intake is not bad advice, in my case, a quick decent to 11,000ft rids all signs of the sickies, instantly.

PS., it was not my intention to decend the mountain without water + Gatorade, as I agree that extra liquids would be a plus, however, in the reverie of the glissade, I accidentally lost my supply. Luckily, the decent erased all signs of illness, and I was able to scramble the rest of the way and inhale a burger at Bucks's Meadow restaurant, fully recovered, and asking myself.."Did I REALLY feel THAT bad a few hours ago??"

Just keep posting the pics, Billy. Some of us have not been there, but would really like to BEE there, and still want to know what it looks like. The chick-on is a trade-mark that says that this was YOUR picture in every much the same way people photograph themselves on peaks...or in front of campfires. It amazes me that anyone would care to comment if a little pink furry friend is in a picture. My gawd, people, there are soo many other things to be annoyed about, such as when your physiology fights you all the way where there are peaks to be had. Or when buddies who once climbed with you now use canes, and they only sigh when they see the pics...
