Meet Mini-Bee. Chick-on needed some more competition.....

Had the pleasure of meeting the Queen Bee in person, wish I lived closer to you all. Good hikers are v. hard to find, great backpackers even harder. Never met anyone who has her stuff so together, both mentally, physically, and organization-wise. I will miss her company a great deal. She is a genuinely kind and sincere person. Be nice to Bee. She's the BEST.

There's a saying that goes: " A lighthouse doesn't announce when it is shining". Bee is like a lighthouse.

If you get stung by Bee, you must've really deserved it. I saw an enormous amount of stinger restraint over the weekend. Like I said, she is a v. special person.

Nice pic. Any details?

A quik note; more to follow later when I have more time.

A group of us went down (and up) 395 this last weekend -- Fri to Sun -- and met up at the E. Sierra trailhead of Mosquito flat. We took the trail (yes, the TRAIL) up and over Mono Pass and camped out at Trail Lakes. If you look up trail lakes, there are several surrounding peaks and ridges -- this is where Blooty and I scrambled up for a nice view of the sunset over Pioneer Basin (the Pic). THe next day, Saturday, we dropped down over a thousand feet into the Basin itself, so that we were able to inspect the meadows and lakes (so many of them) up close and personal. The most impressive visual was Fourth Recess, which there will be photos fourthcoming (my camera crapped out after the first picture, so I am relying apon the expertise of others). Laura, the trip leader, is preparing a slideshow that I will share with one and all. It was my first trip to the E. Sierra, and to say that it is different is the understatement of the year. As Laura puts it: "we don't need no stinkin' foothills". The mountains just rise from the valley straight up. The drive to the destination included a nice little side trip through Yosemite ala Tioga Pass AND a Post Script jaunt to the Whitney Portal to view the future of my backpacking endeavors.

Actually, I don't believe we went so far as to get to Ruby Lake. This appears to be, from my Tom Harris Map which I have of the entire area, a tarn :-) Ruby Lake is down there:

Thanks for the clarification, Tracie! It's really hard to keep the locations straight when I don't take the pictures myself, OR have the map in front of me (details, folks!)

thank you for letting me use your pics.

Dear QB,
Are you sure that the picture wasn't taken on the trail to El Capitan?

Thank you, Bee. What a relief to understand. I knew there was a reason I signed on again tonight besides insomnia. Nothing like knowledge for the soul. Perhaps sleep will come easier now. winking smiley

You will be lucky not to suffer from "OOOOOGA BOOOOGA" paranoia, tonight. Too many OOOOGA BOOOGAs, and you find yourself scanning every nook and cranny before settling in for a nice twinkie or pudding pie! (It's great for scaring off any unwanted camp visitors, though!)

I picked up some weaponry of my own this weekend (Goaties Beware!!!!)

(GW ROCKS -- she keeps us on schedule; something I really learned to appreciate!) (OOOOGA BOOOGA would have been handy!!!!)

Pine Cone Fights must be indigenous to the GoatPack....no one had a CLUE why I was pitching cones everywhere (must stay in practice!!!)

GoatPack skills and practices were proudly displayed on my first trip away from the Pack, and the other folks were quite impressed with what I had learned -- especially the ability to be fed and comfortable with a minimal amount of excess gear. (Marmot Precip jacket pictured above was a life-saver!!)
