The Hite's Cove Trail was closed yesterday afternoon. The story goes that the Forrest Service and the land owner have to complete some paperwork. The land owner, he also owns most of what's there at Savage's and the two hotels down the road, and the Forrest service are working on it and should have it resolved quickly. check with someone before you go.

My impression that the best source for directions and road conditions, if you can find one, is a local pizza delivery business. Don't know if it would work for trail info, unless they deliver to remote campsites.

I think so, but the lady there knows what's going on in the area.
