I don't know SoCal at all, but it seems that every city has some sort of mountain range close by (like where you live, eeek) Is it not true for the area around Oxnard?

Oxnard is by the ocean on a big plain. There bear had quite a trek to get there.

The Santa Monica Mountains extend to about 5 miles from Oxnard. (Basically nothing but farmland in between.)

Eeek, he probably cut over at King City or took the route through Santa Paula off of Hwy 5.

I was looking for the Sandhill or Whooping.

I thought about beeing more specific with the type of crane, but the ambiguity made it more fun!
