Staff from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arcata Field Office will accept comments on the best ways to manage the Lost Coast Headlands near Ferndale, in a public meeting on Tuesday, May 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ferndale Town Hall, 834 Main St., Ferndale.

The BLM will use comments from the meeting and information received in writing to develop a management plan for 465 acres of coastal bluffs, prairies and beaches about five miles southwest of Ferndale.

During the meeting, the BLM will present some suggested management actions, and then open the meeting to comments and suggestions.

Public lands at the Lost Coast Headlands provide open space, beach access and hiking trails. The management plan will contain direction for managing uses, and for conserving natural resource values including wildlife habitat, fisheries, riparian areas and cultural resources.

Those unable to attend the meeting can send written comments to Bruce Cann, Bureau of Land Management, 1695 Heindon Rd., Arcata, CA 95521, or send them by email to Bruce_Cann@blm.gov. Comments will be accepted through July 1, 2010.
