avatar Yellowstone Seeks Comments For Biscuit Basin Trail Project
September 24, 2011 04:52PM
Yellowstone National Park is soliciting comments for a proposed project to replace a portion of trail connecting the Upper Geyser Basin near Old Faithful to Biscuit Basin. The project will replace a portion of causeway trail that is becoming obsolete. Causeway trails, also called turnpikes, are slightly elevated and are constructed on a base of rock. They are used to cross wet areas. The main intent of the project will be to re-establish a portion of the trail that crosses a sensitive, consistently wet meadow. Crews will reconstruct the causeway by installing horizontal timber frames and filling them with rock and gravel recovered from the existing structure. The project will be completed by National Park Service staff in partnership with the Montana Conservation Corps. Funding for the project is being considered through the Wyoming Department of State Parks and the Cultural Resources Recreational Trails Program.

Written comments should be received no later than October 24, 2011, and should be addressed to: Bill Hopkins, Backcountry Trails Office, P.O. Box 168, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 82190. Electronic submissions may be sent e-mail us.
