...WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PST TODAY FOR THE SIERRA NEVADA FROM YOSEMITE TO KINGS CANYON...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON PST TODAY.
SNOW ACROSS THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA WILL REMAIN HEAVY AT TIMES AS A STRONG UPPER DISTURBANCE SLOWLY MOVES CLOSER TO THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST. THE SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE
DISTURBANCE WILL ALLOW HEAVY SNOW TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE MORNING AS ADDITIONAL MOISTURE SURGES INTO THE REGION. SNOW LEVELS WILL FLUCTUATE BETWEEN 7000 AND 8000 FEET THROUGH MIDDAY
TODAY. TOTAL SNOWFALL THROUGH MIDDAY TODAY WILL BE ONE TO TWO FEET...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER TOTALS POSSIBLE IN THE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK AREA.

IN ADDITION...WIND GUSTS OF UP TO 75 MPH WILL OCCUR ALONG WEST FACING SLOPES AND NEAR THE CREST...CAUSING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING
AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND NEAR WHITE OUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL

...SERIES OF WINTER STORMS TO BRING SNOW AND STRONG WINDS TO
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THROUGH MUCH OF NEXT WEEK.

.A LARGE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE EASTERN PACIFIC WILL PIVOT A
NUMBER OF WEATHER SYSTEMS THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA OVER THE
NEXT SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE FINALLY MOVING INLAND AROUND MID WEEK.
THE FIRST VERY WET FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA TONIGHT BRINGING RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOW TO THE
SIERRA CASCADE RANGE BY SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW LEVELS WILL START OUT
HIGH AND GENERALLY ABOVE THE MAIN PASS LEVELS. COLDER AIR WILL
START MOVING INTO THE AREA BEHIND THIS FIRST SYSTEM AND SNOW
LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP TO PASS LEVELS OF INTERSTATE 80 AND
HIGHWAY 50 BY LATE SUNDAY NIGHT. THE RAIN AND SNOW WILL CONTINUE
MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS SUBSEQUENT WEATHER DISTURBANCES PIVOT
THROUGH THE NORTH STATE. SNOW LEVELS WILL CONTINUE TO FALL TO AS
LOW AS 5000 FEET BY MONDAY AFTERNOON AND TO AS LOW AS 3000 TO 4000
FEET BY TUESDAY MORNING. THE MAIN LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY
FORECAST TO MOVE INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA ON WEDNESDAY. BY MID
WEEK...SEVERAL FEET OF NEW SNOW WILL BE LIKELY AT THE HIGHEST
ELEVATIONS. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOWFALL...STRONG WINDS ARE
FORECAST. WINDS GUSTS OF UP TO 50 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE AS WEATHER
SYSTEMS MOVE THROUGH WHICH COMBINED WITH THE HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL
CAUSE PERIODS OF WHITE OUT CONDITIONS. ALTHOUGH A BRIEF BREAK IN
THE HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE AROUND WEDNESDAY

STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA CASCADE
RANGE.

RAIN WILL BEGIN OVER THE SIERRA CASCADE RANGE SUNDAY MORNING WITH
SNOW AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS ABOVE 7000 FEET. BY LATE SUNDAY
NIGHT...SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP TO 5500 TO 6500 FEET AND
THEREFORE START IMPACTING THE MAJOR PASSES OF INTERSTATE 80 AND
HIGHWAY 50. PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOWFALL ARE EXPECTED MONDAY MORNING
THROUGH TUESDAY AND POSSIBLY INTO WEDNESDAY. BETWEEN MONDAY AND
WEDNESDAY MORNINGS SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 5 FEET WILL BE
POSSIBLE ABOVE THE 5000 FOOT LEVEL WITH AS MUCH AS 8 FEET OF NEW
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS ABOVE 7000 FEET.
STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO OCCUR DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. WIND GUSTS
OF 40 TO 50 MPH ARE FORECAST FOR MONDAY WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 TO 40
MPH CONTINUING THROUGH TUESDAY. THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND
STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS OVER THE
SIERRA CASCADE RANGE DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THIS WEEK.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW AND STRONG WINDS THAT WILL IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO

Take cover! The feds are moving in to take control of the water supply and save the world while it rains and snows!

For the Northern Sierra the Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory, a Winter Weather Advisory, and a Winter Storm Watch. They seem intent on covering a lot of possibilities.
