avatar Pipeline Break in Grand Canyon National Park Leads to Inner Canyon Water Conservation

Grand Canyon, AZ –A break in the Trans-Canyon Water Pipeline late on Monday, May 4th has resulted in the implementation of water conservation measures for the inner canyon and no water availability at Roaring Springs or Cottonwood. Crews have located the break and are preparing to begin repairs tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6th.Hikers should be self-sufficient and be prepared to carry or treat all drinking water.

All Grand Canyon National Park trails remain open. The National Park Service encourages all hikers to be prepared and to Hike Smart. More information is available on the park website at http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/hike-tips.htm. An update will be issued when repairs are complete.

The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is currently closed and is scheduled to open for the season on May 15th. For additional information about visiting Grand Canyon please visit http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit.htm.

Grand Canyon, Ariz. –Crews finished repairing a break in the Transcanyon Pipeline (TCP) that occurred north of Phantom Ranch late Monday, May 4th. Phantom Ranch is no longer in water conservation mode and drinking water is again available at Cottonwood Campground and Roaring Springs on the North Kaibab Trail.

Hikers and trail runners are reminded to carry water treatment methods at all times in the inner canyon, as the pipeline can break at any time. Water may also need to be shut off periodically during replacement of the TCP near Phantom Ranch. All Grand Canyon National Park trails remain open.
