ARCADIA, California, October 28, 2016 – The Angeles National Forest (ANF) and the Watershed Conservation Authority (WCA) are jointly preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed San Gabriel River Confluence with Cattle Canyon Improvements Project (Project), and we are seeking public and agency scoping comments on the proposed action to identify major issues to be analyzed in depth. Two public scoping meeting will be held in November. Comment period is from October 17th through December 1st.

The Cattle Canyon Improvement Project was developed to better manage the recreation use and balance the needs for resource protection. The project site encompasses an approximate 2.5-mile stretch of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River, running generally south until its confluence with Cattle Canyon Creek. Proposed enhancements include establishment of parking spaces, development of new picnic areas, pedestrian trails, river access points and upgrades to existing facilities, improvements to paved and unpaved roadways, and restoration of riparian and upland vegetation communities. The future desired condition is to provide balanced, environmentally sustainable recreation opportunities to meet the needs of a growing urban and culturally diverse population, particularly for day use.

Scoping meetings will be held:
  • November 16, 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Julia McNeill Senior Center - Celebration Hall, 4100 Baldwin Park Boulevard, Baldwin Park, CA 91706
  • November 19, 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. - Angeles National Forest Headquarters, 701 North Santa Anita Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91006
The full description of the proposed action/project and information about public meetings is on the following Web site: http://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=50466.
