Mind wandering (no help from Wikipedia):

Why is it harder to free climb down than to climb up?

an insomniac and many cats want to know

FF: Why is it harder to free climb down than to climb up?

Make it a tough one! From experience: it is easier to look UP and feel around for a handhold than it is to back down semi blind feet first (unless yer spiderman) Also, gravity is your enemy when going down; it is much more difficult to monitor your speed.

What IS it with you guys and yer insomnia???

However going down can be a lot faster.

It's not how high you climb or how hard you fall, but how well you BOUNCE!

AHHH, yes...It certainly IS!

(I DO have a sense of humor, honest, it just takes a sledgehammer to get through!)

Only since this forum; usually I can sleep standing up.
But, seriously, on the climbing question: Some of that would be corrected by going down head first and it is still difficult. I think it relates to how the feet and wrist function (direction that they bend) primarily. Easier to dig in toes than heels. I personally am fighting gravity whether I go uphill or down.

For me, its all about the blind wallowing around for my next anchor going down. i have faced this problem canyoneering with almost fatal results. The upward pull is much easier to control if you need to back off an ill placed hand VS an ill placed foot going down, ie its easier to support the body from the feet than from the hands. I hope this makes sense...

Is it tis, or is it 'tis, and if it's 'tis, is there a capital ' to use, and if so, would you have to capitalize the T if the ' is capital?

But is you is, or is you ain't... (old song)
