The Wildcat fire remains active, and approximately 1235 acres have burned. The lightning caused fire continues to slowly burn, moving along the Return Creek area and to 1 ½ miles to the north of the Tuolumne River near Register creek. There is very little fire activity along the river bottom. The most active flank continues to push to the northeast along Return Creek. Yosemite Crew 6, a six person team, will continue to monitor this fire. The fire continues to smolder and move slowly through brush, Red Fir, Jeffery pine and ground fuels. Isolated islands of unburned fuel will continue to burn inside the fire perimeter. Firefighters have cleared some brush and placed a light scratch line, for defensive purposes, near Return Creek and to the bottom of the Tuolumne River canyon. A portable sprinkler system was placed into service by firefighters to protect the Return Creek Bridge. This fire has been burning for nearly a month and firefighters, from the start of this fire, have been able to continue and minimize aggressive firefighting activities and there-by adhere to Wilderness ethics and values.

Trail closures are in effect: Due to hard work by Crew 6 the trail is now open to Water Wheel Falls. It will be a few more days before the entire trail is open, as hazard trees still exist along the immediate trail. The trail will remain closed from Pate Valley on the west to Water Wheel Falls to the east.

With the amount of rain that we just had I'd be surprised if this baby is still burning.
