Kernville, CA., September 28, 2009...A wildland fire discovered Sunday evening continues to burn along Highway 190. The "Power Fire" has burned over 350 acres and is 65% contained.

Highway 190 is closed to visitors in both directions due to fire suppression crews and equipment working along the road. As of 4:00 p.m. today residents of communities around Camp Nelson and Ponderosa will be escorted through the fire area.

The fire started along the Tule River near the Stairs on the Western Divide Ranger District, Giant Sequoia National Monument. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Resources currently assigned include 6 dozers, 4 helicopters, air attack, 4 air tankers, 19 hand crews, 21 engines, patrols, water tenders and overhead personnel. The South Central Sierra Interagency Incident Management Team has arrived and will be assuming overall management of the Power Fire.
