With the renovation completed, Swinging bridge is now open to all traffic. Backpackers bridge will be closed due to construction from November 4 to December 3 with intermittent openings during evenings , Fridays, and weekends.

Backpackers Bridge? I assume that's the one next to the Backpacker's Campground? Just never heard it called anything before.

I was wondering about that myself.

Isn't that the One Slip and Your Dead bridge?

Did you take the picture? If so, how did you get across (the same tree)?

Did you take the tree across too?

That looks crazy to me.

Would be best filed under the heading "Hey, hold my beer and watch this"

And to think we did it after the cables had been taken down.

Actually it's looks a lot worse than it was. the water was only about 1 foot deep. We could have waded across but we would have gotten wet. The log was bouncy though. Bill-e-g is probably post the picture taken about 20 minutes later where we did wade across a stream.

I used to take groups backpacking in Yosemite. Sometimes a lot of patience was needed for the most trivial stream crossings.

Thank you for your encouragement, eeek. Still, I can't help but chuckle at myself...

So that's you Mike? I do understand about not wanting to go through the hassle of wading across (taking off boots, socks. Tying them to your pack, etc). During our JMT hike in July there were days we waded through so many streams we got fed up and took some unadvisable "bridges". Ended up taking a couple of unplanned dips in the river. smiling smiley
