For immediate release.

Clovis (November 30, 2009)..."Firewood cutting and gathering areas on the Sierra National Forest have closed for the season and woodcutting permits have expired," stated Forest Supervisor Ed Cole. The Kaiser Pass Road to Edison and Florence Lakes and the McKinley Grove Road to Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs have also closed for the winter.

Travelers are encouraged to visit the Sierra National Forest during the winter months but are advised to use roads that are maintained for winter travel which include State Highways 41, 140, and 168. "Visitors are reminded to carry tire chains at all times and always let someone know your travel plans," stated Forest Supervisor Ed Cole. "Winter storms can catch travelers off guard and their return home can be delayed causing family members concern. If overdue visitors leave information on their whereabouts, locating and assisting them becomes easier," added Cole.
