The reworked "Half Dome Outlook" is worth a stop if you enter via Big Oak Flat Rd.
There is this display along with a Bronze Dome.

I like the view from Mt. Hoffmann, which puts it in a nice perpsective. I have some photos at home - maybe post them a bit later.

Just some amazing photos you guys have there....I love Yosemite but still have a real fear of exposed heights so Lembert Dome is the most I can do for the time being!! crying

Sorry, no (at least not from me).

Truth-in-advertising: that's not my picture. I downloaded it from the web a couple of years ago because I liked it so much.

I had a high resolution copy that you could zoom in on all day, but I don't seem to be able to locate it.

I flew by Shasta for my Solo, and I even managed to snap a few pics, but they are long gone lost (I don't have much use for archiving, so I will probably forget that I did anything interesting in old age)

A friend of mine took this from a commercial jet last summer.

That aerial shot is really cool. If there's any chance you had a high-res copy to share, without the yellow line, i'd love to take a closer look at it.

Interesting -- the Dome looks really far away from El Cap in this pic, while in other pics, they practically look stacked on each other (like in my winter shot & YPW's shot taken close to El Cap) It must have everything to do with the fact that I used full telephoto (compresses the pic) and this one must have some wide angle, maybe?

Glacier Point never disappoints (unless the vis is zero) for a dramatic picture!

PS, CB, did you have 12 sugar coated uva for New Years (all Mediterraneans have a similar custom)

We do plain (no sugar coated), one for every chime of midnight. It's impossible to do it though! lol. (Truth is I am out of practice [i.e. old] and sleepy by then!)

Here's a photo of Half Dome from a location that's just an easy five minute cross-country hike from a pullout off Tioga Road southeast of Coyote Rocks. (The pullout is where Old Tioga Road joins Tioga Road roughly a mile west of the May Lake junction.)

I was thinking this could be a nice place for your friend to pop the question to his girlfriend. They would definitely have the place all to themselves.

Ok, now that is just funny. Well to me... because I was going to post this photo last night...


I was only going to say one thing: T20

But I kinda thought it would get one of those "well... that's not that... great" responses... so I didn't bother...

But now I'll add that also near there is a really great example of a "balancing rock".
Probably you saw that... for anyone else... go there and explore. Good stuff.

The balancing rock... one BIG boulder.... that looks like this.
The boss was with me.. (actually this was the Falls Ridge trip) ... gives it some scale...

The graininess of the photo, especially in the blue sky, makes it look like the photo was taken way by in the 1970's on Ektachrome slide film, and not just last week. A wonderful photo!

Yesterday (Wednesday, June 26, 2013), as summer days go, the air quality was pretty darn good in the Central Valley and sure enough, Eighty-Percent Dome was visible (through the haze) from Patterson. A very nice sight to see:
