I bet those power lines, even with markers or stabilizers, are very hard to see when flying. I was always amazed how hard it was to find a mile long runway.

First time night flying was very interesting.

Yeh, I remember my first night flight well. My lessons were on the coast of Maine and the runway in use that night pointed right out to sea. Immediately on climbout the windscreen was filled with,-----nothing, just total black. Ocean underneath and overcast on top. Not a light in sight. That was my first real introduction to instrument flight as apposed to simulation. Only lasted until I made the turn but in that half a minute the seat of your pants wants you to turn the airplane upside down.

I once flew solo from Phoenix to Albuquerque at night. There's a whole lot of no light out there and very little horizon to see. Was quite happy to see St. Johns airport going by below me right on schedule.

The most interesting flight I did was right after a blizzard -- the runway (plowed and looked more like a chute) was REAL obvious!
