In the backcountry of Yosemite National Park at 8,600-foot Tuolumne Meadows, the snowpack depth is 64 inches, but spring is in the air. Cross-country skiing looks to be sensational in the next month. Winter wilderness ranger Kathi Younger, who has been living here since last fall -- most of it with no electricity or telephone -- managed to get a report out this week. It is like a glimpse into a secret winter world that few can imagine.
